Unveiling the Destructive Force of Flood Damage
The flood damage that comes from floods can be as widespread as wiping away communities and destroying everything in its path. Learn more here…
The devastation caused by flooding can be very intense and widespread, as seen in the photo above. You don’t even need a foot of water to wash heavy vehicles down the road. In this post, learn about the damage flooding can do around the nation and the true power of water.
This post is all about what damage can be done by flooding.
Withering Flood Damage
Flood Damage to Cars
The first section of this post will be about flood damage to cars. Just six inches of flood water can wash your car down the road, and add just a tiny bit more water and more speed can send it into buildings and trees at dangerous speeds. You shouldn’t ever drive onto a road that is covered in water. It might look shallow, but it can still carry your car away. That is why, as the NWS says, Turn Around, Down Drown!
Flood Damage To Homes
There are multiple ways homes can be damaged because of water. One way is water leaking into homes, damaging walls, and interior objects that might float around. It can be dangerous if you are stuck in this water because of the force of the flood. Another way, if powerful enough, flash floods can destroy homes is just simply by washing them away. There is footage of flood waters either just eroding cliffs to the point where houses fall, washing through them, or collapsing them.
Cost of Flooding
The cost of flooding can be enormous and may cause billions of dollars in damages when they happen. For example, two recent hurricanes that were catastrophic to many people, Hurricane Ida and Hurricane Ian, caused a combined cost of almost $200 billion, and both of those hurricanes caused most of their destruction because of either storm surge or rainfall flooding.
Flood Damage Clean-Up & Restoration
The last section of this post will be about the clean-up and restoration process after floods. It takes months to clean up after the floodwaters, with tons of debris lying around, mud and dirt everywhere, and buildings in need of demolition. It might take a lot of time to get a flooded community up again, but it will happen after a lot of work.
